1. An overview of the two filters
Each filter asks a different question about the chat:
- “Unanswered” asks: Who wrote last?
- “Open” also asks: Have you processed the chat yet?
Because “open” is the stricter condition, every open chat is also unanswered. The reverse is not true.
2. The “unanswered” filter
A chat appears under “unanswered” as soon as the last message in the conversation is from your contact. The only thing that matters is who wrote last.
These things do not change the filter:
- a saved draft
- a note
- a message you have queued to send but that has not been sent yet
In all these cases, the last message actually sent is still from your contact. The chat therefore remains under “unanswered”.
Only once your message has actually been sent via CompLeadly does the last message switch to your side and the chat disappear from the filter.
3. The “open” filter
“Open” is based on the same principle: here too, the last message must be from your contact. In addition, the chat must still be completely untouched.
A chat is open as long as it has:
- no saved draft,
- no note added, and
- no message queued to send.
As soon as one of these three things exists, the chat is considered processed and is removed from “open”. It does not disappear from “unanswered” as a result.
4. How the two filters work together
The lifecycle of a chat therefore looks like this:
Situation | open | unanswered |
|---|---|---|
Your contact wrote last, and you have not added anything yet | yes | yes |
You have added a draft, a note, or a message to send | no | yes |
Your message has actually been sent | no | no |
You wrote last and are waiting for a reply | no | no |
This results in the practical benefit: “Unanswered” shows you everything where your contact is still waiting for a sent reply. “Open” narrows this down to chats you have not touched at all yet.
5. What counts as processing
CompLeadly considers any form of preparation you leave in the chat as processing:
- Draft: a saved message that has not yet been approved
- Note: an internal note on the contact
- Message to send: a message that will be sent automatically during the next run of Smart Chat in your sequence
All three remove the chat from “open” because work has already started on its content. This does not affect the sending status, so “unanswered” remains unchanged.
6. Summary
- “Unanswered” is based solely on whether the last message sent was from your contact.
- “Open” also means: no draft, no note, no queued message.
- An untouched chat appears in both lists.
- After a draft, note, or queued message, it only appears under “unanswered”.
- After it has actually been sent, it disappears from both filters.
